Harbour City Photography Club Field Trips 2009 Galleries

Valdes Island Auto Graveyard Field Trip : Located on Valdes Island, in an open forest full of thick moss, lies an armful of vintage decaying automobiles. On Sun, April 19th a dozen club members chartered a boat over to the graveyard. The day was thinly clouded creating a natural softbox. A truly surreal photographic adventure for the group.

Colliery Dam Park and Lakes Field Trip : There were a total of 15 Members and guests who went on the Nanaimo Colliery Dam & Lakes Field Trip over two seperate dates. On both occasions it has snowed soon before the Field Trip causing the paths to be fairly icy and slippery so the entire site was not attended. The cool air, the assortment of light conditions along with the smow made for some interresting photography. Enjoy this Gallery as presented by assorted HCPC Members . Your comments are encouraged.

Coombs Butterfly World and Orchid Display Field Trip : On Sunday the 15th of March the Coombs Butterfly World was inundated with photographers. !9 people turned up on our Field Trip with an assortment of camera types ranging from film to point and shoot to some pretty fancy digital equipment. Because of the weather, cold, wet and snow, there were not many butterflies out and about in their greenhouse. However there was a large variety of Orchids on display. Also, being photographers, nothing was safe from the cameras. We have a large number of photographs in this gallery of basically the same objects,,,,but they are all different, Again we get to see the individuality of photography. The comradery,,and photography continued in the restauranr and as you can see,,even the photographers are not safe from the camera. Please enjoy these images and feel free to add your comments to either individual photographs or the entire gallery.

Englishman River Falls Field Trip : We had 2 car loads of photographers attend this Field Trip. The weather could not have been better and we had a variety of light situations. The gate to the park was closed so we had a short walk to the falls and pathways. Everyone had a great time and attained some great images as demonstrated here.

Nanaimo Museum : The Nanaimo Photo Gallery in Nanaimo was gracious enough to permit the HCPC Members attend and basically take over the Gallery for a couple of hours. As can be seen by the variety of photos of the same objects, the eye of every photographer is different. The lighting, glass reflections, and many bodies in the background (usually at the wrong time) mad for some difficult photography. However,,as you can see,,,many fantastic images were attained.

M.V. Frances Barkley trip to Bamfield : On the 19th of February a party of 8 went for a day cruise on the MV Frances Barkley from Port Alberni to Bamfield, B.C. The trip started off with thick fog which provided some interesting photography. It soon cleared and we had a wonderful day of sunshine all day. We enjoyed a 1 hour stay in Bamfield where there were many sites to photograph. We all had a great time. Please enjoy the attached photographs supplied by the members in attendance of this Field Trip

Milner Gardens and Woodland : On the 20th of May, 6 Menbers went to Milner Gardens & Woodlands. It is located on the West Island Highway, 2 km south of Qualicum Beach. The weather was perfect and the light was nice. We later found out that Nanaimo had nasty weather all day which made our Field Trip that much more enjoyable. Though there were fewer blooms than anticipated like all photographers,,,we did find images to create and had a great time while doing so.

Coombs Bull-A-Rama : We attended the Coombs Bull-A-Rama this year. Arangements were made in such a way that the attending Members had access to almost all areas in the arena. The Members spread out covering all angles, switching periodically and managed to attain some amazing images of the volunteers, particilants and audience. The entire 2 days were action packed.
Enjoy the photos and please feel free to add your comments at the bottom.

Jack Point Park : On September 9, 2009 a group of HCPC Members went on an evening Field Trip to Jack Point Park. We were all wondering what the weather would be like because it had been raining for the last three days and nights including the morning of our Field Trip. Alas the rain broke about an hour before our meet time. We did not get a clear sky, however the light was soft and consistent. We were out there shooting for about 2 hours and all had a great time. Enjoy the images the Members placed here and feel free to comment.

Kinsol Trestle/Cowichan Bay/Butter Church Field Trip : On October 3, 2009 a group of HCPC members took a field trip to the Kinsol Trestle, visited St. Andrew's Cowichan Station Church, stopped for lunch at Cowichan Bay and photographed the Butter Church. The owners of ETA Bus Tours provided us with a 25 person bus at cost of fuel and one of the company owners, Rick Brown drove free of charge. Having the bus with all of us together made this Field Trip so much more enjoyable. Thanks-you ETA Bus Tours. Some members attending donated their images of Kinsol Trestle to the group working on restoration of the Trestle as part of the Canada Trail for fund raising purposes. We will be photographing the repairs as they are being done and again return upon their completion. Working with the community in this way is what HCPC is a large part about. Enjoy the photographs and please feel free to add your comments below for either individual photographs or the entire gallery.

Elk Falls and Campbell River Canyon : A group of HCPC Members went in late October to Campbell River Canyon and Elk Falls. The weather was promising rain but we went anyway. It turned out that the rain stopped with the exception of 30 seconds of very light drizzle and the sky was lightly overcast, perfect for photography. After the Canyon we went to Elk Falls and up the path to Moose Falls. We were supposed to go to Campbell River but there was so much to photograph and so much colour we ran out of time. Please enjoy the attached photographs and feel free to add your comments below for either individual photographs or the entire gallery.
